D'Lite Kids Bike Trailer and Double Stroller - Burley Design Is the jump from the Burley Honey Bee to the DâLite worth the extra money in features and longevity or is the cost difference really in the features and both would last equally as long? The weather extremes can mess up what was to become a great family bike ride. Both the Burley and the Chariot Cross are great cross-overs for biking/jogging. Another great feature. Iâll always look back on the Burley DâLite as our beloved corona trailer. Burley DâLite Review Leave a Comment / Outdoor Gear Reviews, Bike / By Amelia Find our updated review (2019) here! It just looks slightly different, but we think the improvement for ease of use is great.**. The Burley D’Lite is an excellent trailer that excels at towing kids ages 6 months (or 3 months with updates) to ~6 years and cargo for many years after that. Ungroomed trails can be difficult to maneuver because the skis are skinnier. It has a large “cab” space that accommodates 1-2 children with bowed out sides for more shoulder room. For bigger kids, the safety roll can hinder maximum comfort. Â, UPDATE: We actually had a major issue with the pull bars pulling out of the waist band after this original review posted in 2014. This high-end bike trailer, whose price point is hugely deserving, is a luxurious way to tow the kids around for adventure, family rides, to and fro school rides, and when commuting with kids. The D’Lite works not only as a bike trailer (it comes standard with a tow arm, hitch and safety flag for biking), but also converts with different accessories to jog, stroll and ski. The Burley Dâlite ($849+) is the best kid bike trailer for active parents who want to bring their kids and gear along on rides. The entire process of attaching and detaching the D’Lite X trailer’s tow arm to a bike is easy peasy! (that a screen would normally protect them from). **This review was updated in July 2016, see revisions below!**. Suitable for parents who feel like kickstands add extra unnecessary weight. A– I guess it depends on how big your 6 year old is. A lot of my friends have the Cougar 2, but have yet to see a Burley around! Has anyone else noted thar the d light needs more air flow or had issues in the rain? Itâs comfortable for the adults. I would love to see the option of being able to open the side windows and the rear window. **In the photo below, you’ll notice the old receiving mechanism. Also any considerations on new vs used? The bike trailer also has wheel guards that protect against unforeseen obstacles on the trails or on the roads. Like all Burley trailers, the Burley DâLite X does everything well. We’ve also been using the Baby Snuggler($75) with L. Recommended for kids aged 6-24 months, it’s a great accessory to keep kids snuggled, as the name implies. Finally, where the arms for the different attachments (biking, jogging) attach to the trailer actually double as “wheel guards” (both in the older and newer models). – When you are spending this kind of money, I’d love the ability to be able to use it to stroll with younger babies. I have tried to have her sit taller, etc. The Burley Dâlite Child Trailer is one of a few high-end bike trailers. Maybe a future update? Interior shoulder width: 26 inches or 66.1 cm. The seats offer a passive suspension feel for the riders, and this is what we call Fantastic! The sun cover slides lower and upwards when you pull on the strings on either side of the front cover. Personally, we believe that the trailer provides excellent protection for the child if we were to crash (though, again, would keep it away from the potential of being hit by traffic). Assembling the D’Lite X is super simple. Since most children fall asleep to the lull of a trailer ride, this is an important feature. The Burley trailers are unique because the seats can easily be unclipped from the top of the trailer to convert it into a cargo-hauler for kid-free errands. Built for adventure, the Burley D'Lite double bike trailer has active suspension and premium seating for your little adventure buddies. Usually that number can be fudged a bit (shhhhh), but this is one trailer I would not do so with. I actually havenât found something similar, because many do not compare models from different brands. Even though there are not so many recline options (three recline positions- 110°, 115°, 120°), kids still love the available options! Burley trailers come in three quality tiers â Recreation (Good), Sport (Better), and Performance (Best). However, as always, the opinions expressed here are completely and honestly our own. Burley DâLite X Review To say that we were excited to do this Burley DâLite X Review for you is an understatement. and just haven’t had great success. Itâs made, really, for pulling. – The padding on the straps tends to fall off and needs to be re-threaded back on, – I’d prefer a hitch system (where the trailer connects to the bike) that I didn’t have to put some effort into making sure it was in the right spot. Q- Thanks a lot for all these detailed reviews. It also provides a bit of a barrier between riders if you are hauling more than one child (which our kids tend to like). Your email address will not be published. Letâs get this out of the way now, the Burley Dâlite bicycle trailer retails at an eye watering £675. A- It could beâ¦just as much as any fixed-wheel jogging stroller. Plus of course, the price can be a distinguishing factor as the Burley D’Lite X is a premium bike trailer and deserves a price that matches its status as a high-end bike trailer. It pulls smooth like butter as a trailer and strolls smooth like butter as a stroller. They are 20â³ compared to the 16â³ on the Tail Wagon. The answer is that I really don’t. My plan is to use it for running 5 times a week and 2-3 times for biking. Both are GREAT strollers and you wouldnât be disappointed with eitherâ¦but my kids go in the Thule infant sling for walks in a matter of days after birth. To be specific, the Burley D’Lite X only weighs less than 30 pounds. Seated Leg Room: 21.5 inches or 54.61 cm. Your email address will not be published. We wanted to see what all the hype was about.  The We! Besides, when in riding mode, the handlebar doubles as a roll bar when folded forward. There is a small vent in the back and then front can be completely open, but I think the option to open the back window completely and open at least a vent on the side windows would help considerably. They also dropped the recommended age to 3 months, as mentioned above. The photos below show the S.I.T. However, when in recline mode, the rear storage area becomes inaccessible, but that’s not a matter. The skid guard that has innovative reflectors help protect the trailer while you pedal the joy out and your riders either cheer or make fun of you! A- Personally I would go with the Thule because the infant sling on it is far superior to the Burley snugglerâ¦in my opinion. For an excellent bike cart for kids, without concern about the price at the expense of safety and comfort, the D’Lite X fits the bill. It is a bit pricey but for a good reason. For storage or travel, the trailer folds down very flat and is light despite the room interior. Or seems to be the only one suitable for older children. The push button quick releases make taking the wheels off super easy. We’ve used the Burley for skiing numerous times this winter, despite an overall lack of a ton of snow (gah!) Treat your little ones like royalty with the Burley D'Lite X double bike trailer. The handlebar is smooth and comfortable to the person pushing the trailer and can move different heights. And which Thule to get!! It boasts of a huge 50-liter cargo area in the ear that can swallow your adventure gear. As our summer-long review proved, every detail of the trailer is honed for comfort, safety, and versatility. While many of the roads are paved in our area, we choose to ride on the older gravel roads especially in the height of the summer to avoid the tourist traffic. The Burley D’Lite X bike trailer hitches into a socket that attached to the rear axle of an adult bike. It is the lightest double stroller we have tested and it has been quite noticeable on some larger hills and when I have been exhausted after a typical brutal sleep with two kids under three years old. There is a pin that goes through a hole in the hitch and you have to look at it carefully to be sure the pin is going in correctly. While the angle is really not adjustable except by tightening and loosing the straps shown in the photo above, the seats are reclined just a bit for greater rider comfort. It was another area where before you had to make sure things were lined up well in the previous model. This means when you misjudge a corner or turn, they protect the tires. Save this story for later. (Iâll love it EVEN more when my new bike arrives in a couple child + 20 lb. Photograph: REI Save this story for later. Even for lazy parents who would rather call their neighborhood bike mechanic for an assembly, you will find the assembly process for the Burley D’Lite X simple, exciting, and straightforward. As Burleyâs high-end âperformance levelâ trailers, the Burley DâLite and DâLite X have a few extra perks that make them truly exceptional. – The flexibility to be able to quickly convert it into a cargo trailer at any time (for use in all modes), – A fully adjustable handle bar that doubles as a roll bar, – Large cargo space in the back that can even accommodate a balance bike along with a plethora of other gear. Due to the necessity of having to keep so many kids warm and happy, she has become an expert in kids' gear and loves being able to share it with others. The trailer weighs 28 pounds (comparable to a single jogging stroller), and has a max capacity of 100 pounds (kid + gear). We noticed that upon folding the wheels easily pop off and slip into the storage bag that comes along with the bike trailer in the box. **This review was updated in July 2016, see revisions below! Burley Dâlite Bike Trailer Review Burley DâLite Stroller Kit When my son was first born we didnât have a ton of money and just went for a low-to-mid-level option, a predecessor to Bellâs Smooth Sailer Bike Trailer. Amelia lives with her husband and five young children outside of Jackson, WY in Grand Teton National Park. I tried it out for the first time to see how it handled with about 100lbs of weight on a local greenway trail. See old (left) vs. new (right) below. People often ask if we notice any pull from the heavier side, especially when just one child is in the trailer or the difference between the riders is significant. The DâLite is good for bigger kids and does have good air flow. Republication, in part or entirety, requires a link back to this original post and permission from the author. Itâs comfortable for the kids. I’ve repeatedly asked our kids if they are comfortable in the D’Lite and have always been assured they are. The seat pads are also premium, see every reason to invest in this bike trailer, which further maintains comfort and safety for the kids. Besides, the adjustable suspension system can help you maneuver through different terrains while the kids get the comfort reflected as part of the user experience when designing this piece of industrial art. This means it works for any height of pushers and different needs. The D’Lite is versatile, but limited since it can’t be used for the first 6 months (or 3 months with the newer Snuggler model). I mostly put water bottles there, but also put my keys, money and snacks I would like to keep handy. The number of riders: 2 children (Double trailer). It’s easy to compare it to what we already know, so I’ve spent a lot of time in contact with Burley’s (excellent) customer service, asking questions and making sure I knew the D’Lite inside and out. If it is not, it slips and that makes jogging very hard (but itâs an easy fix!) The Burley DâLite X features a premium 20â wheel, which, according to us, is aggressive and unforgiving on the trails and stable given its wider width. Its active suspension, premium seat pads, headrests and independently reclining seats make for a comfy ride. The interior and exterior of the D’Lite X alike also have extra organized pockets where you can store some valuables: phones, cameras, and water bottles-you name it. It is incredibly light, comfortable to push/pull AND ride in, and is a fantastic all-around stroller. In retrospect, it's clear that the reviews I was seeing were biased either by sponsorship or providing gratis product to the reviewers. With long runs, there is the chance that kids will fall asleep, and having the headrest that keeps their heads in a comfortable position as to not clang against the other childâs is pretty cool. The Burley DâLIte is also a little wider and provides more elbow room. However, that is history with the Burley D’Lite X child bike trailer. The wheel also has a modern reflective taping, which further makes this trailer the best yet in the high-end class of bike trailers. Where the front weather guard attaches to the trailer is well made and functional – we’ve never had it pop open (an issue we have dealt with often while using other similar trailers). It is one reason that they don’t make it possible to use the trailer with babies – keeping safety in mind and of the utmost importance. Burley D'Lite X review vs Encore Burley added an adjustable headrest, which is awesome. Although one cannot tell the Burley D’Lite X from the upgraded version of the Burley D’Lite, the fact that the former has a seat that reclines independently makes it distinguishable. First off, it comes with an adjustable handlebar that becomes handy when using the stroller mode. Numerous times I have been able to put a balance bike in the back “trunk” along with the rest of our gear and haven’t felt like we needed more room. We scoured eBay and Craiglist before buying a new one and found that the used Burleys were only slightly cheaper. Ski Kit is for use primarily on groomed trails. Being a deep one, the rear cargo space can hold quite a bit of anything your kids want to carry along. Amelia started TMM in 2012 to help encourage all families (including her own) to get outside, no matter the weather. The trailer hitch (where it hooks onto your bike) is one other area I would love to be improved. Now, you slide it in, a locking button stops it where it needs to be to receive the bag pin and then the “leash” attaches easily. The back of the seats also have an open space for the back of helmets to fit through so they aren’t pushing little heads forward. While we haven’t used this feature a ton yet, it makes the trailers so much more versatile for long-term use. The D’Lite also folds down quickly and easily for storage and travel. As if not comfortable enough, the engineers also integrated a five-point harness buckle system that is child-proof. They build a full line of trailers to meet the needs of families worldwide starting with their budget-friendly Bee and ending with their deluxe D’Lite trailer.
